Kano: Govt recalls 6,995 teachers from private, community schools

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has approved the recall of all the 6,995 teachers on the government payroll posted to private, community and voluntary schools in the State.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the States Ministry of Education, the State governor has directed that the teachers will now be reposted to public primary, secondary and higher institutions of learning across the State that critically needs teachers.

It further stated that Ganduje also approved a systematic review of the existing arrangement that suffice the posting of teachers to such schools, so that eligible schools may apply to strengthen their manpower capacity.

The screening committee had identified a total number of 6,995 teachers from SUBEB and KSSSMB posted to private, community and voluntary schools while on the State and Local governments payroll, according to the statement.

Also, a technical committee set up by the state had equally sourced 5,000 workers with various qualifications in education from the States civil service for onward posting to public schools.

The reform is part of the States initiatives to address the problem of shortage of teachers in its public schools and to complement its free and compulsory education policy.
